    What is the MoSCoW Method?

The MoSCoW method is a qualitative prioritization technique used to manage requirements. It helps stakeholders understand the importance of each feature in a specific release.

    • Must Have

Non-negotiable requirements. Without these, the project is a failure. These are legal, safety, or business-critical requirements.

      Should Have

Important but not vital. Creates significant value, but there is a workaround or it can be delayed if strictly necessary.

      Could Have

Nice-to-have. Desirable but less important. Include these only if time and resources permit.

      Won't Have

Out of scope. Agreed to be excluded from this specific release to prioritize other tasks. This prevents scope creep.

      • The 60/20/20 Rule As a rule of thumb, aim for 60% Must Haves, 20% Should Haves, and 20% Could Haves. If Must Haves exceed 60%, your project is at risk.
      • Won't Have is Crucial Explicitly defining what you are NOT doing is just as important as defining what you are doing. It aligns stakeholder expectations.
