          What is WSJF?

          Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF) is a prioritization model used in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to help teams deliver the most value in the shortest time. It calculates priority by dividing the Cost of Delay by the Job Size.

          • (User-Business Value + Time Criticality + RR/OE) ÷ Job Size = WSJF Score

            Higher scores indicate higher priority. This ratio ensures you tackle high-value, fast-to-build features first.

          • User-Business Value

            How valuable is this to the customer or business? Consider revenue impact, cost savings, or customer happiness relative to other features.

            Time Criticality

            Is there a deadline? value decays over time. Is there a fixed window of opportunity? Will you lose customers if you delay?

            Risk Reduction / Opportunity Enablement

            Does this help future delivery? Will this feature reduce technical debt, mitigate risk, or unlock new business opportunities?

            Job Size

            How long will it take? Relative duration or effort to implement. Smaller jobs get higher priority if value is equal.

            • Use Relative Estimation Don't use hours or dollars. Use the Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20) to estimate relative to other items.
            • Score Columns, Not Rows To maintain consistency, score one factor (e.g., User-Business Value) for ALL features before moving to the next factor.
            • Job Size is Key WSJF mathematically favors smaller items. Breaking large features into smaller chunks often increases their WSJF score and delivery speed.
